I am a passionate educator and hold a PhD in Science and Technology education. I was a master teacher in secondary education and senior lecturer at Vista University, Welkom campus and primary lecture at Unisa, an institution for distance education.
Currently, I am an independent researcher. My research experience includes being appointed as post doctoral fellow at two South African universities.
My research concerns how technology can be used to improve teaching and learning. I serve on the editorial board of the AAEEBL ePortfolio Review, an international journal regarding the use of eportfolios in education (see experience). I was the managing editor of the first issue of the second volume, a wonderful learning school.
I have developed a website for teachers available at https://arend.co and an app (Arend Onderwysers) to support the continuing professional development of teachers. Here a group of 19 000 teachers learn from one another to improve their work.
I have published research in both Afrikaans and English.
